Dr. Arie Gutman
Dr. Arie Gutman is relatively new to the Jewish Federation of Broward County, but his commitment to Jewish causes is life-long, and he is already making an impact here in South Florida. An immigrant to Israel from the Moldova region of the Soviet Union, Arie splits his time now between Florida and Israel.
“I believe in doing what’s right, and helping the international community of Jews,” he said. He served as a member of Board of Governors for the Jewish Agency For Israel and has been active in Jewish life in many ways. For example, in 1990, he founded FineTech Pharmaceutical Ltd. a chemical research company in Israel which employed scores of Russian speaking immigrant scientists. He continues to serve as President and CEO of FineTech Pharmaceuticals.
Arie’s involvement in Jewish-Israeli affairs began when he was as a young boy in the snows of the Urals and it continues to be very close to his heart. For many years he was a contributor and active participant of AIPAC, a board member of the CIU (Center for Inter-religious Understanding) and Chairman of the Partnership Steering Committee between Nesher, Israel and Broward County Florida.
Among many other accomplishments, he served in the Israeli Army, obtained a Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry at the Technion in Haifa, and won the Rotary International Fellowship to study for a Ph.D. at Cambridge University in England.
While a student at Cambridge, Arie was the “Israeli Ambassador of Good Will” and gave many talks at Rotary Clubs and University Campuses in the UK about Israel’s achievements in science, agriculture, immigration absorption, etc. After completing his Ph.D., he returned to Israel to pursue an academic career at the Technion and quickly became a Professor.
His work with the Jewish Federation of Broward County includes involvement on the partnership committee with the Federation’s sister city of Nesher and as a new member of the Federation Board of Directors.
Arie continues to serve as President and CEO of FineTech Pharmaceuticals, which has evolved into an FDA approved Pharmaceutical company, exporting its products to the USA, Canada, Europe and South America. In addition to his work with the Federation in Broward County, he serves on two committees of the Jewish Agency’s Board of Governors since October 2010. He has two grown sons who share his passion for giving back to the community and, he says, “They are very proud of me!”
